My age group was born right before the stew went on the flame, and it was simmering by the time you came around. The pandemic has really kind of forced that on us, if nothing else. The internet has both connected and isolated people, and I think over the past few years, we’ve seen it do the latter a bit more than we’d have liked. That’s not something I would have ever had such easy access to in the past we were kind of forced to hang around people with diverse backgrounds, at least a little bit, and didn’t have access to a constant stream of divisive rhetoric that is prioritized for view based on precisely how often people look at it rather than whether it is likely true or valuable. It’s the same thing, just evolved, at least as hypnotic. Something shows up on your feed because of this, so you get only the tastiest Cheetos, so to speak. The difference is that, now, the way media is delivered to us has algorithmically zeroed in on the absolute best way to do that. That landscape was and is dominated by media that’s attractive to humans for the same reason a quick fast food item is it’s fast, easily accessible, cheap, and makes some feel-good chemicals. In that time, celebrities were different in the way that they were usually experienced through more limited channels (television, film, big record labels, books), but folks fawning over vapid useless famous people has def always been a thing. Honestly, there are some pretty new challenges now mostly based on the advent of widespread internet, but a lot of what you’re feeling sounds familiar, and I grew up right around that 90’s/00’s span of time. I was born in the late 80’s and frankly, I still have no idea wtf is going on, so I kind of understand this weirdly isolating social breakdown that’s happening. We’ve both lived through a portion of a strange, shifting landscape that began to germinate decades ago. I don’t think your generation is a bunch of idiots, and I would wager that most millennials would agree with me. I truly wish I was born in the 90's and 25 years old or like 30 year old right now so I could have experience the 90s or early 2000s as a kid. Im so sick of this generations stupidity and I'm ashamed to be a part of it. So everyone older doesn't take us seriously and thinks we're idiots. Nobody can ever listen to other opinions and are to quick to overreact and just call people buzzwords and label and then all these idiots who thijk "gen z" is a personality when it's just a fucking label. Nobody can think for themselves and they all Live in echo chambers online. I mean a brocolli haired idiot doing dances deserves 1.6 million views? Most of our music and fashion sucks. All of us have mental problems and the "cool kids" and "trends" are fucking disgraceful. We do anything for attention online and dopamine rushes but we don't have like any friends in real life. Our generation sucks because we're a bunch of disorganized chaotic idiots. I don't care if I get put into the "lewronggeneration" category but I'm so embarrassed of being grouped with a bunch of idiots.
